Pescara

Pescara is located on the Adriatic coast at the mouth of the Aterno-Pescara River. The city's main street is Corso Umberto I, which runs from Piazza della Repubblica and reaches the seacoast at Piazza Primo Maggio. The rectangle that it forms with Corso Vittorio Emanuele II and Via Nicola Fabrizi encloses the main shopping district, where several of the best fashion shops are located. Corso Manthone, in the area known as old Pescara, is the centre of the night life in the city. Pescara is also home of the Gabriele d'Annunzio University (named after the famous poet born in the city), a thriving business district and a marina at the mouth of the Aterno-Pescara River. Attractions in the city include the Cathedral of San Cetteus (which contains Guercino's paint of Saint Francis), Madonna dei Sette Dolori Basilica, Palazzo di Citta, Palazzo del Governo and the Museum of the Abruzzo people (which looks into 4000 years of history in Abruzzo).
