About Naples city and Pompeii ruins day tour

A full guided tour of the breath-taking ruins of the ancient city of Pompeii and the intriguing history and culture in the city of Naples
Approx: 6 hours

The city of Pompeii is close to the Bay of Naples. In 79 AD, a long catastrophic eruption of the volcano Mount Vesuvius covered and destroyed Pompeii, killing over 2000 inhabitants. The city was lost for 1,500 years before its accidental rediscovery in 1599. The Volcanic ash and pumice had preserved the city from the time of the eruption all those years earlier. This site is considered to be one of the few sites where an ancient city has been preserved in detail - everything from jars and tables to paintings and people were frozen in time, yielding an unprecedented opportunity to see how the people lived 2000 years ago. You will spend the morning of the tour discovering this breath-taking city. Our guide will help you to discover this site and some of the aspects of everyday life in this ancient city. You'll be astonished by the number of villas, shops and public buildings that archaeologists brought back to life. Also, you will stop in a local factory where craftsmen will demonstrate the production process of cameos and corals. In the afternoon, the tour will move back into Naples for a panoramic tour of the city. Naples is known for its art, culture, music, gastronomy, architecture and rich history.
