The Pinacoteca di Brera ("Brera Art Gallery") also known as Brera Museum is an art collection in Milan. It contains one of the foremost collections of Italian paintings, an outgrowth of the cultural program of the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera, (Italian: Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera), which shares the site in the Palazzo Brera. The Academy of Fine Arts of Brera was founded in 1776 by Empress Consort of the Holy Roman Empire Maria Theresa of Austria. This guided tour gives you the opportunity to see inside the Pinacoteca di Brera, one of the most famous and important Italian museums for its prestigious collections of ancient and modern painting. The gallery is mainly a large gallery of ancient paintings. However, it also retains a select group of works of art of 19th Century and of modern and classical Italian art.
