About OlbiaOlbia is a town in north eastern Sardinia, in the Gallura sub-region. Olbia has great transport links; the town's port is the main connection between Sardinia and main land Italy, and the town is also home of Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport. The town has a few internet cafes, good Italian restaurants and some nice bars. It is a suitable starting point for exploring the popular resorts of the Costa Smeralda, Porto Rotondo or the island of La Maddalena. Many archaeological sites are nearby too, such as the nuragic group of "Cabu Abbas", the holy well of "Sa Testa" and the giants grave of "Su Monte and S'Abe". Due to its fertile hinterland and its strategic trade position close to other Mediterranean countries, Olbia became a rich and important town. The ancient history of this town can still be seen today with a Punic necropolis, old town walls and roman baths. The Romanesque church of S. Simplicio, which is completely made of granite, holds a very interesting collection of roman funeral inscriptions from the Middle Ages. Also, in the historical centre is the 17th Century Church of S. Paolo.
