About Venice Doge's Palace tour

Guided tour of the Doge's Palace (Palazzo Ducale)
Approx: 1 hour

Doge's Palace (Italian: Palazzo Ducale) was the seat of the Venetian political power for many centuries. The palace was the residence of the Doge of Venice, the supreme authority of the Republic of Venice. In the splendid rooms of the Palace, immersed hundreds of works of art, the Duke and his Council controlled the fate of a thousand-year history of the Republic. This tour will give you the opportunity to relive the days of supreme authority from yesteryear. Our tour guide will lead you through the halls of power, plunging you into historical context of the European Middle Ages and the immediately following centuries. You will witness rich details of the gold staircase and the mesmerising realism of the scenes depicted by many artists who have decorated this building. The tour also allows you to relive the anguish of the prisoners crossing the famous Bridge of Sighs, and entering the Venetian prisons, famous for hosting Giacomo Casanova for political crimes. Casanova was an Italian adventurer and author from Venice who is so famous as a womanizer that his name remains synonymous with the art of seduction today.

* Please note, entrance to the Palazzo requires appropriate attire. No shorts, miniskirts or uncovered shoulders.
