Sicily Region

Sicily, officially called the Sicilian Region, is an autonomous region with a special statute of 4 974 154 inhabitants, its’ capital is Palermo.

Its consists almost entirely of the homonymous island, the largest island in Italy and the Mediterranean, as well as the 45th largest island in the world, washed by the Tyrrhenian Sea to the north, to the west by the Sicilian Channel, to the south west from the Sea of Sicily, south-east from the Malta channel, east from the Ionian Sea and north-east from the Strait of Messina which separates it from Calabria, with the remainder consisting of the Aeolian, Egadi and Aegean archipelagos Pelagie and the islands of Ustica and Pantelleria.

Nature is the master in Sicily, and seems to have given its greatest wonders to this land: mountains, hills, and above all the sea, which with its incredible colours, the transparency of the waters and the beauty of its seabed is predominant over other seas.

Among countless places to see, there are also suggestive volcanoes, some of which are never dormant, like Etna and Stromboli.

Sicily is the largest region in Italy, the fourth largest by population (after Lombardy, Lazio and Campania), and its territory is divided into 390 municipalities.

The provinces of Sicily are: Palermo (capital), Agrigento, Caltanissetta, Messina, Catania, Enna, Ragusa, Siracusa, Trapani.
