Caffe shakerato

It's summertime, which can leave you craving something cool to enjoy in the sun. Enter the caffè shakerato! In Italian, "shakerato" refers to any shaken drink (usually alcoholic ones), and here it refers to coffee and syrup shaken with ice to create a frothy, cooling summer drink. It's really simple to make - here's how:

Ingredients
2 oz. strong cold-brew coffee
1 oz. simple syrup (see below)
Ice
Chocolate syrup (best if it's in a squeezy bottle)

Simple syrup (makes 1.5 cups):
1 cup sugar
1 cup water

Preparation method
To prepare the sugar syrup, simply combine the sugar and water in a jar, seal and shake until the sugar is dissolved.

Now on to the shakerato! Combine the coffee and syrup in a cocktail shaker and fill with ice. Shake vigorously for about 45 seconds (this is important - put some muscle into it). The outside of the shaker should become frosty and the coffee inside should be light and frothy.

To serve, take a wine glass and drizzle chocolate syrup down the inside. Then strain the shakerato into the wine glass carefully so that the chocolate syrup drizzles are still visible. To be fancy, you can top with whipped cream, cocoa, crushed nuts, chocolate flakes or a drizzle of chocolate sauce!
