Family-friendly destinations in Italy

There’s no doubt that Italy is culturally rich, with the likes of the Uffizi art gallery and the Galleria dell'Accademia in Florence, the Colosseum in Rome, and Pompeii’s archaeological site, but it’s also an excellent choice for young families looking for entertaining child-friendly activities set against a backdrop of stunning scenery. Here is our selection of family-friendly destinations, where you’ll find water parks, zoos and theme parks, as well as fun activities, such as hot-air balloon rides and quad biking!

Rome is a city drenched in history but there is so much more to it than the Colosseum! So, if history doesn’t spark your interest, what else is there to do in Rome that will keep the kids entertained? Well, how about an Angel and Demons tour, which is based on Dan Brown’s best-seller, or a cooking class in a Roman house? You could also plan a visit to Rome’s zoological gardens, where you’ll find big cats, reptiles, elephants, chimps and much more! Older children may like the Ghosts and Restless Souls evening tour, where they’ll learn all about the ghosts and ghouls that are rumoured to haunt the ancient city, or you could hire segways!

If a holiday in the sun is more your thing, then what about Sorrento in the south of Italy? There’s plenty to do to keep the children busy, such as day trips to Capri, tours of the epic Mount Vesuvius, sea cruises with swimming, Due Golfi train rides and musical theatre trips. It’s also home to the citrus groves used to grow the lemons that go into Italy’s famous Limoncello liqueur, which is a plus for the adults!

If you’ve got teenage children then Milan is a good choice for your family holiday thanks to the city’s sophisticated and chic atmosphere, as well as the numerous fashion outlets and shopping malls! It’s also home to the AcquaWorld water park and we can arrange hot-air balloon rides, trips on the famous Bernina Express train or football stadium tours.

The Italian Lakes are the perfect destination for active family holidays as there are plenty of fun activities for adrenaline junkies, such as quad biking and windsurfing, and it’s also home to one of Italy’s most popular amusement parks: Gardaland, where you’ll also find the Sea Life Aquarium! And for the adults there are wine tasting tours, as well as spas.
