The Spanish Steps become a car-free zone

If you’ve visited Rome recently you may have noticed that the Spanish Steps are a little quieter than previous, and it’s all thanks to a new ban preventing taxis and cars from entering the area. In fact, only electric minibuses are allowed.

So what’s going on? Well, this is the first phase of the Trident Project, which aims to gradually pedestrianize the streets between Via del Babuino, Via del Corso and Via Ripetta in Rome between now and December 2014.
