Tuscany’s Pizza Festival: 29th June to 2nd July 2017

If you are lucky enough to find yourself in Tuscany between June 29th and July 2nd, head to Prato on the outskirts of Florence for the town’s first ever Pizza Festival.

The event is being organised by Alessandro Rubino and Fabio Bartolomei, in collaboration with Confcommercio and Confesercenti, and is due to take place in Piazza Duomo in Prato’s historic centre. In preparation for the festival, more than 10,000 balls of dough will be delivered to Prato from Naples – the birthplace of the famous Italian pizza.

At the festival, you will be able to find the true masters of Italian pizza, including the Pizzaiuoli Neapolitan Masters, Rossopomodoro, Nomad and L’Agliara, who will be preparing fresh pizza in on-site wood-burning ovens. Among them will be the pizzaiuoli who hold the record for the World’s Longest Pizza (measuring 1.8 km) – a skill that will surely be utilised at the Prato Pizza Festival as the organisers anticipate that around 18,000 pizzas will be made and eaten during the event!

As well fresh pizza, there will be ice-cream stands and artisan beer, and there will also be live music. Plus, on Saturday July 1st there will be a special workshop for children, where they can learn the secrets of Italian pizza from the a professional pizzaiuolo, making this a great event for families.
