What's good to do in Florence?

We love Florence. There’s something about it that is difficult to describe. It has a sort of magic about it and, although it’s a popular city, it doesn’t feel busy or claustrophobic. Instead, it oozes Mediterranean charm and is also home to some of the most famous art galleries in the world, such as the Accademia and Uffizi galleries, which are a delight for art lovers but also intrigue the everyday holidaymaker, who’s just interested in seeing the city sights.

So, what’s good to do in Florence?

  • The Accademia Gallery and the Uffizi Gallery

These art galleries are a must-see! The Accademia Gallery is home to the world-famous Statue of David by Michelangelo, which, no matter how many photos you’ve seen of it, will still astonish you, while the Uffizi Gallery contains the most renowned art of the Renaissance era and the exquisite art collection of the Medici family. The art collection at the Uffizi is certainly extensive and we recommend that you take a day so that you can spend your time walking round – you can even stop for a coffee on the rooftop terrace and enjoy the city skyline!

  • Take a day trip through the Chianti region

This is one for wine connoisseurs! The Chianti region in Tuscany grows the Sangiovese grapes, which are used to produce Chianti wine and there’s nothing like sampling a glass in its homeland. If the wine alone isn’t enough to tempt you into the Tuscan countryside then the stunning views surely will. The mediaeval hill-towns can only be described as enchanting, while the stone castles and farmhouses provide a stark contrast to the breath-taking lush green landscapes.

  • A hot-air balloon ride in the Tuscan skies

If your holiday to Florence is part of a particularly special trip, or you just want to treat yourself or a loved one, then you can’t beat the awesome thrill and peaceful serenity of a hot-air balloon flight. This is the best way to enjoy the magic of Florence!

  • Take a trip to see the Leaning Tower

Pisa is not far from Florence and a day trip to see its famous leaning tower is a good choice for those who want to make the most out of their holiday. The main tourist attractions of Pisa are grouped together at the beautiful site known as Campo dei Miracoli ("the Field of Miracles"), including the Leaning Tower, the Baptistery and the Cathedral. You can also give your legs a work out and climb the stairs to near the top of the tower to take in views of Pisa and beyond!

  • Romance your partner with a night tour

The magic of Florence is all the more apparent at night, when pretty coloured lights illuminate the city’s famous architecture, and we highly recommend a night tour of the city to couples wanting to add a little sparkle to their holiday in Florence.
