Courmayeur

Courmayeur is located at the foot of Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in Western Europe. It sits in the Graian Alps range and is crossed by the Dora Baltea. Courmayeur shares the summit of Mont Blanc with its neighbouring commune of Chamonix in France, and is the highest commune in Italy. Courmayeur's picturesque mountain scenery and healthy mountain air make it an attractive destination all year round. It is one of Europe's most famous ski locations, with 24 modern and functional lifts (cablecars, chairlifts, ski-lifts). Courmayeur offers 100km of fun on the snow, downhill slopes, off-pist and cross-country skiing in the Ferret Valley. Snowmaking machines always ensure excellent snow conditions. The town is full of cultural and natural entertainment as well as shopping, gastronomy and the possibility of practising several sports, both in summer and in winter. Courmayeur is also home of the Giardino Botanico Alpino Saussurea, which is known as Europe's highest botanical garden. In the summer months Courmayeur is a popular destination for hikers. Mont Chétif is a hiker-friendly mountain with a statue of the Virgin Mary at the summit overlooking the town, which can be seen from anywhere in Courmayeur.
