A full guided day tour from Sorrento to Pompeii and Herculaneum

Pompeii and Herculaneum are two of Italy's most fascinating archaeological sites, where you can take a glimpse back in time to see how people lived nearly 2000 years ago.

The cities were famously lost beneath a blanket of ash following an ancient eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The ash served to preserve the cities, and their inhabitants, until the cities were discovered by accident some 1500 years later. Today, both cities offer a fascinating insight into ancient life and on this day tour you can enjoy a day trip to the Pompeii and Herculaneum from Sorrento with a guided tour of each archaeological site from a professional guide.

Tour Itinerary

With the morning part of this tour, you will discover the ruins of Pompeii and experience aspects of everyday life in this ancient city. You'll be astonished by the number of villas, shops and public buildings that archaeologists have brought back to life and that you can discover with an expert guide. Also, you will have the opportunity to stop in a local factory where craftsmen will demonstrate the production process of cameos and corals.

After your guided tour of Pompeii, you will have some free time for lunch before the tour continues to the nearby city of Herculaneum. This city was once a holiday resort and now manufactures leather goods, buttons, glass and the local wine known as Lacryma Christi (Tear of Christ). Following the ancient eruption, Herculaneum was submerged mainly in lava and mud, giving a different style and sense to the excavations, which you can discover with our expert guide.

After learning all about Pompeii and Herculaneum, you can relax on the luxury coach back to Sorrento.
