About Salerno & Paestum

The beautiful Salerno seafront offers the chance to relax, but those wanting to experience the atmosphere of the city will love the little alleys of the old town. Those interested in the history of medicine will know Salerno as the site of the first ever school of medicine, known as Schola Medica Salernitana, and in the 16th century, the city was well regarded as a great centre for learning. Today Salerno is an important cultural centre in Campania and Italy.

The ancient city of Paestum is surrounded by imposing, ancient, defensive walls, which are between 5 and 7 metres thick and 15 metres high, and adorned with tall towers. It is famous for its archaeological excavations and temples, but also has a modern district with a sandy beach.
