Parma

Parma is a city in the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna famous for its ham (Prosciutto di Parma), its cheese (Parmigiano Reggiano), its architecture and the beautiful surrounding countryside. It is the home of the University of Parma, one of the oldest universities in the western world. The main attractions of Parma include the Museo Glauco Lombardi, which documents the life of Maria Luigia, second wife of Napoleon Bonaparte and the Duchess of Parma. The Piazza Duomo is where you'll find the city's cathedral and the baptistry, both built in the late 12th century. The Teatro Regio is world renowned for opera with passionate and critical local opera aficionados. Also, each year throughout October the Festival Verdi celebrates the famous and adored Parma resident Giuseppe Verdi (Italian Romantic composer, mainly of opera and one of the most influential composers of the 19th century).
