Features a detailed viewing of Villa d'Este, which dates back to the 16th century

Villa d'Este is a fine example of Renaissance architecture and dates back to the 16th century, when it was commissioned by Cardinal Ippolito II d'Este - the grandson of Pope Alexander VI. He was appointed Governor of Tivoli by Pope Julius III, with the gift of the existing villa, which he entirely reconstructed to plans of Pirro Ligorio carried out under the direction of the Ferrarese architect-engineer Alberto Galvani. The palace was built over a Benedictine convent and contains delightfully frescoed reception rooms. However, the main attraction for visitors is the beautiful Villa d'Este gardens, which feature many water features and fountains. There is also a wide range of impressive fountains, including the grand Fountain of the Dragons, the Hundred Fountains and the gigantic Water Organ Fountain, which cascades down a huge drop into quiet, shady pools.
