Portofino

Portofino is a small Italian fishing village on the Italian Riviera. The town, crowded round its small harbour, is well regarded as one of the most beautiful Mediterranean ports. The town is closely associated with many beautiful beaches, which are a few minutes up the coast, such as, Paraggi, Camogli, Chiavari, Lavagna, and Sestri Levante. The main sights in Portofino include the Statue of Christ of the Abyss (placed 17 metres underwater to protect fishermen and scuba divers and in memory of Duilio Marcante), Castello Brown (16th century), Church of St. Martin (Divo Martino) and the Oratory of Santa Maria Assunta, (Gothic style). However, the main attraction of Portofino, is the town itself. The town is made up of little streets leading up from the harbour with many quaint shops, art galleries, cafes and restaurants. Portofino is a highly desired holiday destination for the affluent tourist. The amazing harbour (hosting a variety of yachts and boats), the beautiful nearby beaches and the tranquil town make it a must visit location.
