Visit Vibrant Cities and Glorious Natural Lakes on a Customised Lombardy Holiday

Lombardy (Italian: Lombardia) is a northern region of Italy. Its most famous city is Milan, the regional capital and one of Italy's most cosmopolitan cities. However, there are plenty more tourist destinations to enjoy on a customised Lombardy holiday, such the Italian Lake District. In particular, we love the pretty lake-side villages around Lake Garda, Lake Como and Lake Maggiore. For example, Como on Lake Como and Sirmione on Lake Garda are popular favourites for a Lombardy holiday.

About Lombardy Holidays

Lombardy covers an area of 23,861 square kilometres and has a population of 9.9 million inhabitants, a nod to the cosmopolitan destinations to be discovered on a Lombardy holiday. Milan is regarded as the world's fashion capital, even surpassing New York, Paris, Rome and London. Most of the major Italian fashion brands, such as Valentino, Versace, Prada, Armani and Dolce & Gabbana (to name a few), are currently headquartered in the city. Milan is an excellent choice for a chic weekend away, but can also be combined into a diverse Italy multi-centre holiday.

Those who want to enjoy stunning natural vistas won't be disappointed by a Lombardy holiday. Three distinct natural zones can be distinguished in the Lombardy region: mountains, hills and plains. The most important mountainous area is an Alpine zone including the Lepontine and Rhaetian Alps, the Bergamo Alps, the Ortles and Adamello massifs; it is followed by Alpine foothills, known as Prealpi. Also, the great Lombardy lakes, all of glacial origin, lie in this zone. From west to east these are Lake Maggiore, Lake Lugano (only a small part is Italian), Lake Como, Lake Iseo, Lake Idro and Lake Garda.
