Discover the famous Grotta di Nettuno on an Alghero day tour

The Grotta di Nettuno (Neptune's Grotto) is without doubt one of the most popular day trips for visitors to the town of Alghero and a tour of the Grotto counts as one of the star tourist attractions on the whole island of Sardinia.

The Grotto is a natural marine cave located to the west of Alghero. It was discovered by fishermen in the 18th century and there is now dramatic lighting to enhance the multitude of stunning stalactites and stalagmites, which take the form of all manner of shapes, including organ pipes and cathedral columns.

We offer a selection of Neptune's Grotto tours from Alghero, including boat tours and road tours. Please see below for more information or call a member of our expert team on (UK) 01223 637331 or (US) 1-347-594-5500.

Boat tour

Our boat tour departs from Alghero's port and takes you on a relaxing cruise to the entrance of the cave. On the boat tour, you can sit back and enjoy the scenery on offer, such as the tranquil bay of Porto Conte and the spectacular vertical cliffs of Capo Caccia.*

On arrival at the cave, you can take a guided tour, which lasts approximately 45 minutes, through the cave with commentary from a bilingual tour guide.

Road tour

It takes approximately 45 minutes to get to Neptune's Grotto from Alghero by road and the journey will allow you to take in the seafront scenery and Capo Caccia. The road tour drops you at a small car park, from where you can climb down to the lighthouse close to Neptune's Grotto.

There are 656 steps that lead down to the Grotto, which are called the Escala del Cabirol or Goat's Steps. They were cut into the cliff wall in 1954 and zigzag down to the Grotto entrance. On arrival at the cave, you can take a guided tour, which lasts approximately 45 minutes, through the cave with commentary from a bilingual tour guide.
