Walking Holiday Itinerary

We recommend the following itinerary for a 7-night walking holiday in Assisi.

Day 1. Arrive at your hotel in Piediluco close to the lake.

Day 2. Start from the St Francis Sanctuary in Piediluco and take a short lakeside walk to Labro - one of the medieval villages. Continue through Morro Reatino to see a little stone-chapel and the St Francis beech tree and then on to Cepparo and the Sanctuary of Poggio Bustone. From here you can take a mountainside path to your hotel in Borgo San Pietro, where you will spend the night.

Day 3. After breakfast, start the second part of your self-guided walking tour with a hike along the mounatin flanks to the little village of San Liberato. Continue to Cantalice, Santuario di San Felice all’Acqua and then the Sanctuary of Santa Maria della Foresta. After visiting the sanctuary, continue your scenic walk to Rieti, where you will stay for the night in a city-centre hotel.

Day 4. The third section of this walking tour takes you from Rieti, along the bank of River Velino, to the Sanctuary of Fonte Colombo. You can then continue on to Sant’Elia, Contigliano, the Abbey of San Pastore and the medieval village of Greccio, where you will stay for the night.

Day 5. After breakfast, hike to the top of the Monti Sabini, which hangs above Greccio, and visit the Cappelletta di San Francesco, the Ruschio meadows and the Sanctuary of Greccio. Finally, relax in a comfortable apartment at Agriturismo Le Chiuse di Reopasto.

Day 6. The penultimate leg of the journey winds across the valley for most of its length so you can see the Terria Bridge and small canals and lakes in the Riserva dei Laghi Lungo e Ripasottile. End you day in Borgo San Pietro, where you will stay for the night.

Day 7. The final part of this 7-night walking tour begins with a short walk to the Sanctuary of Poggio Bustone, Prati di San Giacomo and Cima d’Arme, where you can visit Sacro Speco - a little stone-built church against an imposing rock wall (don’t forget to ring the bell before leaving)!. Continue through meadows and by rocky slopes to reach the highest point at Sella di Vallorgano (1850 m). Here you'll find the ski resort of Piande’ Valli, where you can remain for the night or you can choose to journey to Rieti.

Day 8. Enjoy a buffet breakfast before your departure.

On-site assistance and a help-line number is provided to all guests. A supervisor is available during the entire journey to provide assistance and information by telephone and, by prior arrangement, in person.

Please note that the above price is based on 2 people sharing one room and there is a single room supplement of £350. This tour is available for a maximum of 8 people. The programme can be modified to suit special requirements, such as alternative/additional routes, extra nights, different types of accommodation and local transportation.
