Piazza del Duomo is the starting point of the historic city center and tourist center par excellence. The areas in which the city is divided are many: Zona Fiera, RHO PERO, Bande Nere, Beatrice d’Este, Bovisa, Buenos Aires, Certosa, Famagosta, Moscova, Ortomercato, Ospedale Maggiore, Palestro, Parco Sempione, Porta Garibaldi, Porta Genoa, Porta Vittoria, Turro – Gorla – Greco, Viale Cermenate, Viale Corsica, Viale Ortles, Washington area and the Hinterland.

One of the most important cultural centers of Milan is represented by the Royal Palace, an ancient palace of the sovereigns of Milan located in the heart of the city, next to the Duomo, which has become an important cultural center coordinated with three other exhibition sites: the Rotunda della Besana, the Palazzo della Regione and the Palazzo dell’Arengario in which exhibitions and displays are punctually carried out. 

Navigli

Without forgetting the Navigli, the ancient network of waterways that allowed river transport between the Ticino, the Adda and the Po and, therefore, the Adriatic Sea. Today, it is a very lively area, especially in the evenings, fashionable, full of places where you can still find, as a reminder of the ancient work of the artisans who traded on the banks of the canals, craft workshops and ancient washhouses covered with wooden roofs.

The Sforza Castle, built in the fifteenth century by Francesco Sforza, is certainly one of the most interesting monuments of the Renaissance period in Milan, inside which there are important artistic collections of the city including the collections of ancient art, the Pinacoteca, the Collection of furniture, in the Corte Ducale, while the Rocchetta houses the ceramics, the goldsmiths, the collection of musical instruments and the Trivulzio Tapestries in addition to the Archaeological and numismatic collections and some important institutions such as the Libraries d’Arte and Trivulziana, the Cabinet of Drawings and the School of ‘Art applied to Industry.

Palazzo di Brera

Palazzo di Brera instead, owned by the Humiliati in the 14th century and later by the Jesuits, opens onto a courtyard surrounded by an elegant arcade in whose center you can see the imposing bronze monument of Napoleon Bonaparte, designed by Antonio Canova. Palazzo di Brera today is home to the Pinacoteca di Brera of the Academy of Fine Arts, the Braidense Library and the offices of the Astronomical and Meteorological Observatory.

Among the typical festivities of the Lombard town we remember on December 7th Sant’Ambrogio, the patron saint of Milan together with San Carlo Borromeo mind or first 10 days of June are dedicated to the Festa del Naviglio, with parades, music and other events.
